Flinders Street Railway Station

Breathing New Light into Melbourne’s Flinders Street Station

Built in 1910, the golden era of Edwardian Architecture, and lovingly restored in 2018, The Flinders Street Railway Station is now home to a state-of-the-art Lumascape LED Lighting System.  With over 90,000 LEDs, built into 1,100 LED light fixtures and an advanced control network, the night time transformation of the Old Dame is breath-taking.

From the beautiful classic colours of yester year, to high impact dynamic lighting effects, the lighting system on Flinders Street Station knows no bounds.

Lumascape specializes in the transformation of spaces through light and the application of technology. We have done this on many high profile projects right across the globe.

Our intelligent lighting systems can be seen illuminating the Concert Hall and Box Office of the Sydney Opera House, the massive network of roadways of the Semanggi Interchange in Jakarta and the incredible City of Dreams Hotel in Macau, as designed by the late Zaha Hadid.

The visual night time transformation of the train station can be clearly seen, but what is less obvious is the level of intelligence in the control system behind it all.  The system enables optimum operation, delivering detailed reports in real time, facilitating maintenance, and simplifies customized lighting effects, all over the internet.

Lumascape is honoured to have had the opportunity to work with Darkon and Apec Electrical to create such a special lighting show on such an iconic building in the heart of Melbourne city.
